the air? Six years

What brought you to KFCF?
The interest to bring some Spanish speaking listeners to the
station.

Please give a brief
description of your program. We strat with a news headlines
(brief segment), then interviews regarding topics of
interest to Latinos, such as immigration, social and
political issues both here and in Latin America. During
musical breaks, we try to use Latin music —non comercial,
when possible.

Who all are the players
involved in putting things together? I am the producer and
host and Margarita Cordova is the engineer.

What are some issues that
you have the opportunity to speak about on your program that
you might not be able to elsewhere? During 2006
presidential elections in Mexico, I was able to do a brief
interview to the PRD’s candidate, Andres Manuel Lopez
Obrador, while visiting Mexico City. Later I ran the tape
on “Nuestro Foro”.

What are some memorable
moments you’ve had as a programmer with the station? When I
was able to interview, during a visit to Mexico City, Mr.
Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, then presidential candidate.
Later we ran the brief interview on “Nuestro Foro.”

What are some strengths you
feel you’ve developed in part due to hosting your own
program? I think I expanded my contacts.

Have you previously been
involved in radio/communication’s If yes, when & where? I
have 20 years experience in journalism. I worked since the
mid 80s mainly for Spanish media.

What are some of your
favorite programs on the KPFA/KFCF airwaves? Democracy Now.

What one word describes the
feeling you have once you’ve just completed a show? Peace

What advice would you
dispense to folks in the community who have something to say
and feel they don’t have a venue in which to do it? Tune
KFCF, there a local program where you can say something.
Also, there now many venues —mainly the internet— where
people can say something.

Are there other Independent
media outlets that you might encourage readers or listeners
of your program to check out? Of course, I always do
regarding the Spanish media —in other languages too, but
this is my field.
