MINUTES FOR APRIL 11,1999 MEETING
Present: Rychard Withers, Vic Bedoian,
Catherine Campbell, Kent SteadmanStratford, Barbara Devinney,
Rand Stover, Dixie Salazar.
Meeting convened at 1:12 PM
VB brought up the crisis at KPFA with the firing of Nicole Sawaya, Larry Bensky and the possible effects on KFCF in terms of fundraising during the May Marathon.
It was agreed that Vic would compose a letter on the firings, programming, the gag-order and its’ effect on listeners to the Pacifica National Board and it would be also sent to Lynn Chadwick, Executive Director of Pacifica. MSC
VB suggested that individual board members should also write letters.
RW suggested that we should look at the idea of writing to KFCF subscribers and make on-air announcements if needed during the marathon
The idea of a budget for the initial stages of the Campaign was talked about. RW agreed to provide a list of sub printouts to those at the meeting so they could note who knew whom, and a database could be worked on regarding subscriber’s possible contributions.
VB discussed having a fundraising consultant address the board.
VB said that local groups had asked the FFCF to sign on a co-sponsor of a protest against the imprisonment of Mumia Abdul Jamal.. It was discussed that we could do it in name only, but many of the people on the board were unfamiliar with the MAJ case and no action was taken.
