Minutes of June 8,  1999 Fresno Free College Foundation Board of Directors Meeting

Present: Barbara Devinney, Catherine Campbell,  Ben Amirkhanian, Don Fisher, Doug Noll, RL Stover, Rych Withers, Victor Bedoian

7:45 PM - Meeting is called to order by Doug Noll.

Minutes were reviewed and approved.

Vic reported that the current financial situation is “OK” and based on our percentage of past marathons we can estimate somewhere around $36,000 from this last marathon. Pledge fulfillment rate is a question due to the ongoing KPFA crisis. Vic reported that we did not get funding for either the Juliana Harris Bluestein “Muse Magazine” project or the film series. Vic reported that the last speaker in the Distinguished Speakers series, Mike Davis went well and that Matthew Lasar, author of “Pacifica Radio: The Rise of An Alternative Network” would speak on June 11.

In a discussion of the ongoing crisis at KPFA, Vic reported that there were no breakthroughs. He met last Tuesday with various community groups in Berkeley. He suggested that Pacifica was stonewalling on the issue.

Doug Noll was given a copy of the subscriber/donation list. It was suggested that everyone compile whom he or she knew from the list by the next meeting with information on the individual.

Catherine Campbell, playing devils advocate, defended Pacifica Radio’s policies in regards to the dispute at KPFA

Doug Noll began a discussion on what effects the KPFA crisis could have on programming, and what we should be prepared to do. He also talked about our owning the satellite uplink system and whether that could have any effect on the dispute.

Catherine Campbell moved that we turn KPFA programming off and begin all local programming. Don Fisher seconded the motion. A heated discussion followed.  (Amended July 99 - Struck from minutes)

Catherine Campbell proposed that the next agenda include a 2 year goal to fundraise and move KFCF/FFCF into a new building with studios.

Barbara  Devinney suggested that we discuss programming goals and financial planning at the next meeting.

Next Meeting  was scheduled for July 13, 1999
